Fall Fashion Round-Up: What’s Trending

With a plethora of pre-fall items trickling into stores, now’s the time to nail down those investment pieces. Wait ‘til after Labor Day and the wardrobe staples you really want (Valentino Rockstud stilettos, anyone?) will be long gone. Without further adieu, my must-have list of early autumn statement pieces worth $plurging for.

Navy is The New Black

While burgundy, teal and dove grey are must-have hues for fall, the biggest shade du jour is without a doubt, midnight blue. So kick last year’s cobalt aside and make way for the new… navy.

The Essential Moto Jacket 

You should know by now that I’m obsessed with all things leather and this IRO-sistible moto jacket is no exception. While it looks strikingly similar to last year’s popular Ashville, this updated version (a.k.a. Han) is a significant improvement, making the inflated cost somewhat more palatable. 

Having recently test-drove le “Han” at Barneys, I can vouch for its sleek, supple and form-fitting silhouette, which felt like a second skin against my petite frame. I’m also partial to subdued embellishments (fewer in-your-face zippers) and its moody blue shade, which perfectly complements my current state of mind (yup… aunt flo is in town) not to mention my wardrobe. Besides, $1,260 is much cheaper than ongoing therapy. $old!

Mixed Media in a Bag

It seems foolish to fork over $950 for a mini Pashli given that 3.1. Phillip Lim is launching a strikingly similar diffusion line with Target on September 15th. Yup… that means like bags for a fraction of the retail cost. Since I refuse to put up with the inevitable catfights and in-store bedlam that day, I might as well cut my losses and be the proud new owner of this wearable work of art. After all, leopard happens to be a classic print and I simply can’t imagine life without it.

Leather Accents

Leather accents and asymmetrical zip fronts are huge this season so I naturally splurged on this Rag and Bone stunner. I was beyond ecstatic upon discovering that R&B now makes select items in size 00 – finally, a few less trips to Pablo, my trusty Stanton Street tailor. After trying it on, however, my visions of looking like a souped-up New York housewife came to a crashing halt. The armholes on the dress are cut too wide and the leather waistband squashed my stomach, causing my belly fat to protrude. Ok… ’nuff said. Guess it’s time to size-up to a zero or start that Blue Print Cleanse pronto.

Punk It Up

Given my recurring bout with running-induced shin splints, I now have a valid excuse for flaunting designer flats. It’s clearly time to re-haul those flashy Ash wedge sneakers I foolishly obsessed over last year. But I digress…

For daily strolls in the park with my twin toddlers, my footwear of choice is this Doc Marten-inspired boot by Valentino. I’m head-over-heels with the whole punk / grunge revival and frankly, am looking forward to reliving my youth. The heel also happens to be sturdy enough for climbing steep ladders and won’t sink in the sandbox like my standby Valentino Rockstud stilettos. Amen… there is a fashion god after all!
