Dutchies proprietor Linda Creemers never dreamt of ditching a cushy law career to launch her own handbag line. Devoid of a business or fashion design background, she started handcrafting colorful suede satchels for friends and family simply as a hobby. Soon after, the word spread about her coveted creations, prompting Creemers to quit her corporate gig and set up shop in the trendy Nine Streets hood. Fast-forward one year later: Dutchies (slang for Dutch) is now the destination spot for her limited-edition leather bags, belts and wallets.

Mannequins swathed in stretchy cigarette pants, billowy off-the-shoulder tops, pointy-toed snakeskin pumps and thumping disco beats set the scene for this über-stylish store. The go-to spot for slightly used and re-constructed clothes from the ‘70’s and ‘80’s, expect to load up on cheap ‘n chic collectibles like suede fringed jackets, crochet tops, fur coats (Chanel and Lanvin) and sexy lace dresses. Seal the deal with an over-sized shoulder bag, a chunky beaded necklace and Jackie O-style shades.

For nearly three decades, this temple of cool has carried the crème-de-la-crème in vintage clothing (1950’s ballroom dresses), accessories (sequined bra anyone?) and recently, a knockout collection of nuptial gowns. Other eye-popping numbers to load up on: fabulous party frocks (the basement is filled with bright burlesque dresses à la Dita Von Teese), glitzy cocktail clutches and swanky shoes. Visit their sister store across the street for a mix of casual clothes (wool ponchos, fur coats to T’s), cowboy boots, sunglasses, leopard swimming caps, hand-embroidered linens (tablecloths turned into lace pillow cases and cozy duvets) and kidswear.

Originally a luxe handbag line, this dynamic Dutch designer has since stepped things up (literally!) by branching out with a sister store that sells “solely” footwear. Known for geometric shapes and unexpected color combinations, scan shelves lined with edgy wedge booties, pointy-toed pumps and square toes with punchy leather palettes of orange, yellow, red and lime green (even the walls are matching). Best of all, everything’s handcrafted with Van Eeghen’s signature multi-colored silk lining and other surprising features. With kicks this cool, you won’t walk out empty handed.
